Originality / Re: Muncie transmission bolt length
April 16, 2026, 07:45:25 PM
I bought a piece of threaded rod at HD and cut some studs. Twist them out one at the time and install the bolts. It really does help, I am 72 wiggling a Muncie to align things just ain't like it used to be.

Nice car , my 77 trans am SE has some similar things like gold steering wheel and dash insert. Also the stripes and wheels are similar. I have never seen the Redbird edition before. If you like horsepower these are not for you.

It went well he was able to verify it is a real L78 car with original transmission and other parts. Nice to have for a car with little documentation. The engine is a CE.

I did not know JM did by photo reports. He did my SS in February and I took it to him.I would feel better about in person reports myself if I were buying.

Wise move with the test run. Beats pulling a head off a finished, detailed car. We did that on my brothers 69Z. A helicoil under a head bolt pulled just enough to leak water in a cylinder. On his 62 vette we had to pull the intake after the engine guy left the 1/4 inch plug in the oil galley which half the hole is under the intake and half not. Blew oil straight up and all over the car with the top done of course.

Price makes no sense at all. Nice car but not a totally correct restoration or a mostly original car. Few options. Does have the pop and JM certification, but the certification pretty much says it is a real Z28. Someone or ones must really like that car. Hope they paint the grill.

I have power drums on my 66 GTO and my 64 corvette. Not as good as disc but they work well for my driving. Had them on my 69 Camaro convertible and they did not seem to work as well. Maybe just not adjusted right.

The GM list notes wide ratio 4 speed 2.52 first gear. Wonder what the rear gear ratio is ? Most Z,s are close ratio with 3.73 gears standard.

Originality / Re: 1969 XT wheels
December 27, 2024, 01:37:15 PM
Guys I actually removed the valve stems and there is a 9 or part of one next to the valve stem hole. The rubber valve stems had it mostly covered so my wheels are actually 9-12 of 1968. My car is 12A so the wheels almost 3 months prior to the car. Kind of close for a set I took of another car I had. GM must have either punched the holes after dating or gang stamped across them. A couple of the wheels part of the 9 is in the hole.

Looking at the CRG report, the 12 could be the day not the month but I did not see a number before the 12.

You guys got my curiosity up, I went and looked at the XT wheels and they are stamped K18 12 near the valve stem. I take it that means December 1968. If so my L78 is 12A car. All 4 are the same, painted black. I might should hang on to these. My JM papers say the car would have had rally's or XT,s.

They are in my storage location I will check the dates whenever I can go by there. They were on a non SS 69 convertible I used to have and I never even looked at them until recently when I found out they would be correct for my l78 car.

I have a set of XT 14x7 steels wheels not original to my 69 SS. Would they have been the body color or black?
