Ran across this post when looking for code 51 cars, as there is one in primer for sale near me (code 51 51). I would really like to see a high-quality photo of this car with proper lighting. I am sure it's even more beautiful than it looks here.

Looks legit, but it will cost a lot to put it back to the original pace car look.

Why would someone put a gold trim tag on a blue car? Oh yeah, 3L 4P might be a reason. Time to start looking at upper body areas for original paint blue or gold color.

Was the VIN posted? Look very close to the match up with trim tag date and body number.

In early 2023, I came across one of these "unicorns" in northeast Philadelphia area in a private holding.  It was loaded with options with many of those options appearing to have possibly been either dealer-installed or owner-installed at some point in time because of the numerous flaws that I noticed that could not have been attributed to a factory install.  Regrettably, I did not note the build date on the trim tag.

The D-88 stripes and body paint appeared to be a very old lacquer job so possibly (but not plausibly) original?  Attached is a photo of the "unicorn" with the front license plate redacted.

I believe that car came out of Northern San Diego County quite a few years ago. It was pretty much debunked at the time.

It's looked like that since it sold at a 2019 GAA auction for $46k.

The drive train does appear to be original.

An original drive train 1969 Z/28 Camaro in this condition, at that price, certainly seems like a bargain today.

Seller also claims the interior: "I think for the most part it's original".
Like most Frost Green cars, this one left the factory with a green interior. And now it's black. So there is that.

That is not what the ad says at all. All it says it original metal, which can mean a lot of things. You added the "as it left the factory" part. This car has a lot of parts changed out from what it came out of the factory with.

It's also a repaint, so all bets are off. Often when cars are repainted the holes get covered and located later, unless the car is undergoing a meticulous restoration, which this one obviously did not get.

Numbers look good to me, and it's probably a nice driver. Anyone remember the asking price in the ad?

Why do people make up numbers that are not known, and then act like that adds value?

It is perfectly legal to remove and replace the VIN tag during dash restoration. The rivets are not visible, you can use regular rivets or find the proper ones. The only numbers worth grafting are the stamped hidden partial VIN's.
