That is a seriously cool find, Andrew.  I'm glad it still exists and thanks for sharing it here.  Attached is a for sale ad for the car circa November '67 in Competition Press/Autoweek.  Also shown are a couple of pics from 1968 when J Chris Dyer was racing it at Continental Divide Raceway in Colorado.

Very nice job on the model and hats off for doing the research on the color and getting it done accurately.

This link takes you to a couple of pictures that show original 15x8 magnesium wheels in the crate they came in from Chevrolet.

Trans-Am Camaros / Robert Barg R.I.P.

I received some very sad news from Vince Howlett.  He told me that our friend Robert Barg (known on this forum as oldtransamdriver) passed away about a week and a half ago.  He relayed this message from Robert's friend Skip Jones...

"Robert passed away this morning (January 6).  He was never in pain, just went Home to our Lord peacefully.  He does not want a funeral. He does wish for his ashes to be spread on the Mission track (in B.C.).  Irene... thinks it would be good to have a memorial sometime.  We'll talk about that later.  We lost another good one.  So glad we both got to see him."

My prayers and condolences to Robert's family and friends upon his loss. He was a good man and I'm thankful for him sharing his time and knowledge with us here on the forum.

Yes, Tom McIntyre is the owner of the car and told me about the article.  I don't subscribe and my understanding is that this was the last issue that will be published before the magazine goes permanently out of print.  I'll have to go find myself a copy somewhere.

Thank you Mike K for posting and keeping us up to date with your latest endeavor.  I think we all marvel at your skills and dedication to getting these scale replicas done in as accurate of a manner as is possible.  Looking very good so far!

NOS Doug Thorley header examples showing the original color from the late '60s to early '70s time frame.  Also showing Thorley decal down at the collector flange area which you wouldn't see on a car that had been run for any length of time.

Doug Thorley (Doug's Headers) catalog from 1972 showing various part numbers.  Looks like it is just numbers at that point, no letter prefix.  Thorley NOS headers have been found to be a shade that could be considered "salmon orange".

Great pictures, Scott.  Thanks for the link.  Yes, that is a Joie Chitwood Thrill Show Camaro behind the Mustang, not the race car.  The race car used a darker shade of blue than the Thrill Show cars did.  Not sure why.  It's possible the Caprice and Corvette behind the Mustang were also cars that the Chitwoods brought to the track.  In some of the other pics at your link, the Mustang has a Ring Free racing team decal on the door and the Ring Free team had a bunch of female drivers entered in the race.  The ladies had black sweaters and the person in the car appears to have a black sweater across her lap.  Donna Mae Mims was one of the drivers on that team and the woman in the car is wearing pink like Donna Mae always did, however I don't believe her hair was quite that long at that time.

I am a former owner of that Mountain Green car certified at MCACN.  The blue on the underside of your February car is more like a purple and not anywhere close to the same shade of what is under the Mountain Green car.

The steering arms should be 3954875 and 3954876.  The pitman arm should be 3953227.  The manual pitman arm will have an M stamped on the splined end and the one for power steering will have a P stamped on it.  I prefer manual steering personally so no judgement on my end.

General Discussion / Re: JohnZ's assembly article

Chick, in my experience the tank straps have all been painted black regardless of the LOS or NOR plant.  The blackout on the bottom of the tank was done after the tank was installed in the car.  In my example pics, the upper part of the tank strap does not show paint while the rest of it does.  I can only assume the original black paint on the strap was not thick enough to keep it from having rust form after this many years but the extra black when the tank got sprayed was enough to keep the rest of the strap looking black.
