I had an interesting conversation with a gentleman who now owns a L-78/auto coupe that has a VIN that is 42 cars before the VIN on the block I have. The VIN on his car is 603649. So mystery solved.

GM Part number?
It is a 28 coil spring.
It doesn't look like that part number is good anymore. I did find #3848272 which is also a 28 coil spring for $14.62 each. I hope it's the same one. There are also some springs listed on ebabe with the same 3848272 part # which allegedly also fit Impala, Camaro, Chevelle and Firebird.

Eckler's shows them:

Oldparts.com has 4 core manual "A" body radiators they say are completely correct (rails and cores, brackets) for around $750. Pic looks really good, too -
One of these days I'll send mine to Glen-Ray, when I can access my 401K, pension or home equity (i've got 4 manual trans radiators to spruce up, from Nova to Z to L78). Thank goodness the rails. brackets and tanks are originals and intact.
