Based on this I'm going to take a guess, and that's all it is. I'm going to say that this CO Dicks produced the originals for Campbell Ewald in 69 and somewhere before 71 this dealer was able to find out who produced them and was able to pick up a set that was left over or rerun. Biut that's just and unprovable guess

Bill, any chance you can make out anything on the ship to on the yellow label?  Is there any postal or shipping date on the box? I've researched this since mid 70s as I've had a set since then. There was never a GM part number. They are not mentioned in Assembly manual. Original owners, some who still have the cars today, did not get them. Dealers who sold new cars never saw them or a memo how to get them. They were designed by Campbell Ewald the ad agency for Chevrolet. They were shipped to the track, the central office or dealers who were prepping the cars in Indy to be installed. What makes yours VERY interesting is the CO Dicks Company of Michigan failed to exist under that name as of July 23, 1971. I believe there were reproductions in the 70's as I believe mine are reproductions but I've had them from the mid 70's   Let me know if you can read anything off the yellow label. Bob

I don't know if  NCRS (for Corvettes) has changed it ways, but a decade ago this was from their Judging manual.

"For instance, the following examples represent restorations and are not considered counterfeiting:
• Repainting an original black Corvette with black lacquer paint
• Installing accurately reproduced black vinyl seat covers in a car that left the factory with a standard black interior
• Stamping a 435-HP block to conform to the date/serial number of the original 435-HP Corvette in which it is to be
installed"

"For instance, the following would be examples of counterfeiting:
• Repainting an original blue car red and changing the trim tag to make red appear to be the original color
• Installing a red interior in a car that left the factory with a blue interior and changing the trim tag to make red
appear to be the original color interior
• Replacing the engine of an original small block Corvette with a big block and stamping numbers on it to make it
appear to be an original big block engine
• Replacing the carburetor on an engine with a fuel-injection unit and stamping the numbers and suffix code on the
block to make it appear to be an original fuel-injection car"

So if your "Born With" Engine was long gone, you got another date coded correct engine, and re-stamped it, you are fine. However if you replaced your 427/400 with a 427/435 and stamped as such, that was counterfeit. If it weren't for rules like this, there would be far less of a market for stamps etc.

Thanks William...... Does CRG have anything in their database on that VIN? Just curious in the car was either a wreck and one of the several sets of VINs and Trim tag combos I have seen for sale on Ebay

Has anyone seen this car, or does anyone know anything about it?  I am curious about how it's registered. If you watch the video, and pause at :29 sec. You will see both the original Trim Tag and the VIN have been transplanted to the glove box. I can understand the trim tag as the smooth the Firewall, but moving the VIN to a different location? To spend that kind of money only to spend the rest of your ownership having people tell you everything that's wrong with the car. Yikes!

Thanks so much.  I learn more every day. I've had my PaceCar since '75 Bought it with 20,000 miles. Drove it in summer until I got married in '85 and put in garage. It just came out of a 36 year nap !! Registration sticker on windshield is 1986. I spoke to Steve. Very honest and knowledgable guy. Has been redoing these for decades. There was obviously no way to replate mine without destroying the coils so it was either original or repro...and I've been avoiding repro.  He told me before doing mine how hard parts were to get and was shocked that mine actually worked when he got it.
