OK Guys the electrical gremlins have struck me again. Haven't moved my car in over 2 months. I connected the battery and the overhead and under dash courtesy lights stay on all the time. Checked all the obvious things like the headlight switch and door jam switch. The light on the back of the console works like it should going off when you shut the door. When I push in on the door jam switch it does seem to cause the lights to flicker or dim just a bit and I mean just a bit but they stay on. I was in a hurry to leave so I just took the bulb out of the overhead light. The under dash lights stayed on so I had to take those bulbs out also.
Where do I need to start looking?
Dan- either the switch at the door is grounded or the light switch knob is turned to the on position.
Dan check back at your thread at TC: http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=211434
You said you checked the headlamp switch, but have you rotated the headlamp knob all the way counter clockwise? That switches on the interior light/s and over-rides all of the door switches.. It's the click at the bright end of your dash lights illumination adjustment.
What I just said applies to a 69 and I think 67 & 68 are same. :).
Yeah it's 69 Steve. I always forget that everybody else don't have '69. I've checked the rotation on the headlight switch. That's part of the obvious stuff I checked. I Have checked over at TC. Nothing new and I have checked everything that was suggested over there.....
Perhaps one of the spade terminals has come off one of the door switches and is grounding against the body..
With the light(s) getting alitttle dimmer with CCW rotation of the headlamp switch, suggests the white wire is grounded in the light circuit.
Could be the crossover wire from pass switch to drvr switch, dome light, console wiring, or under dash lights.
Door switches can be unscrewed with a 7/16 inch wrench.
People have said they had problems with the socket grounding on the mounting bracket on the under dash lights. They either worked their way out/loose or there was an incorrect fit.
Here's how the door jamb switches work. :)
Thanks alot guys. I'm in the hospital right now but I'll check when I get home. Maybe Thursday or Friday.
