That's because it is a casting number, not a part number. :)

You know I thought so, but wasn't sure because I believe the part #'s begin with 3953... ? 227 is the last 3 digits. Strange 227 is part# and 218 is casting #.
DT,
I checked my '69 P&A. None of the service replacement part numbers match your numbers. Part numbers 3953217, 3953225 and 3953237 are as close as it gets. It also says 3953219 is the forged number for part number 3953217.

Wow, thanks Paul, I got the 227 # from David Pozzi's web site, I think it is a misprint. If I'm not mistaken, the same 227 is in Jerry M's book, Should be 237. So at this point the 3953218 has to be the forged number as you already mentioned. Thank you very much.

Thank you Mark as well.
