I just bought a 69 convertible and the side mirror is a square shape instead of more rounded like my 69 Z. The date code in the mirror is late 68 the build date for the car is April 69. The glass in the car is all PPG, the glass in my Z is LOF, would this have any impact on the shape of mirror that was installed on the drivers door?
Mirrors were supplied by Donnelly Mirror Inc (DMI) and had no association with either PPG or LOF. Can you post a picture?

I believe all 68 & 69 mirrors were rectangular with rounded corners.
Round mirrors on a 67.

Yes when I get back home later today. The mirror has the (DMI) logo
Is this original?
Here is the DMI Logo
Its not correct for a first generation Camaro, but it actually looks similar to a late 60's Ford truck mirror! Donnelly furnished mirrors to other automobile manufacturers as well, so it may be for another GM division or even another company. Is there anything else stamped or cast into the mirror? You'll have to take it off the car to see the casting numbers inside the stem. More than likely the 2 DMI 8 signifies February 1968 because by 1978 Donnally was using an R in the coding (ie 2-DMI R-8), but it's definitely for some other model or company.

Yes, the mirror is wrong, but the car & color are downright righteous!
Thanks
Maybe we can get Lawrence to tell a little more about his latest purchase... ? ? ?
