Title: Convertible Trunk Mat
Post by: jeff68 on February 22, 2011, 03:02:24 PM
I have a 68 convertible with deluxe interior.  I made the mistake (about 25 years ago) of throwing away the original trunk mat.  It was in really bad shape, but I wish I still had it.  Anyhow, I was lucky enough to find a NOS trunk mat, but it doesn't have any of the slots & cut-outs for the trunk to tailpan braces or the cocktail shakers.

Does anyone have a good picture of an original convertible trunk mat showing how it fits around the braces and cocktail shakers?  I'm also interested in what the hole for the spare tire hold-down looks like as well.  Thanks.

Jeff 68,

Did anyone supply you with picks of an original? I have the original mat from my '67 RS (in poor shape as well), and suspect it's the same as '68. I'll take pics for you if you think it will help - let me know.

I sure would like to get a tracing of the correct cuts for the trunk mat if someone wouldn't mind mailing one to me as well.  Just recieved a new mat for my Pace Car but don't have any idea how to cut for the cocktail shakers or the tail panel support.

Any reference material out there in regards to a template for cutting out for the cocktail shakers?  Working on putting together a 69 pace car.  Original mat missing.

My cocktail shakers are bolted down directly on the mat without any cutouts.  Is that incorrect?

Don't think that is correct, but only know about the 67's, which have cutouts around said CS's. How could you remove said mat, etc., when they are bolted down (for cleaning purposes and so on)?

Did you guys read THIS (http://www.camaros.org/forum/index.php?topic=15614.0;all)? Some of the pictures are blurred (thanks for nothing photobucket), but most are still good.

Back in 1984 I ordered a heavy replacement molded mat from a large vendor (CLASSIC AMARO), I used the ripped, torn, scuffed, stained original out of the trunk of my LOS 69 pacer to trace the cutouts to match. While I had no real reference  to base this on, just was annouyed that the new one did not just flop in place. I used a black sharpie and cut the new mat to match using heavy shears and hammer driven hole punches to duplicate the tight radius complex of slots (slits) that allow the mat to lay around the rear dampers mounting features.

still haven't seen an original convertible mat.  I wonder if some still exist?

If anyone has a template, I could use one also.
