Title: 4 spd shifter hole for a 69
Post by: x66 714 on October 07, 2010, 04:49:35 PM
I have a piece of a floor that I cut out a 67 or 68 years ago. I don't remember if it was automatic or std from the 67 or not. My question is how close could it be for use on a 69? Was the hole always in the same spot for 3spd/ 4spd trouugh out the 67/69?
Thanks, Joe

I think 1969 is different than 1967 /68 . (http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f58/markx22/1969%20shifter/th_consolerearhalf.jpg) (http://s45.photobucket.com/albums/f58/markx22/1969%20shifter/?action=view&current=consolerearhalf.jpg)

When my 69 was redone the guy had a 68 Hurst shifter he located the hole with. I later got a 69 shifter and installed it. It would not go into 2nd or 4th until I reworked the floor to move the the hole back.

Just dug out a reinforcing plate for a 67 and the front to rear hole spacing is 5 1/2" (5.500) and side to side is 4 3/8" (4.375), so the 69 is longer 1" (1.00) and narrower (1.065). I based these numbers using markx22's post.
Figuring that the spacing from the "V shaped crease in the floor" to he forward mounting hole is the same for 67-69, then that would explain the problem with the 2nd and 4th shifter problem.
Being that the 68-69 both use the same console. How did the factory get around the shifter placement difference? I would think they would have to change the placement of the consoles.

I tried emailing to myself and couldn't print or see any better . That's the best resolution i get as a JPEG picture . I can print clear out of the original drawing program but it loses quality converting to JPEG for photo bucket or email . I can try redrawing with bigger text which one do you need ?

No need to go to any trouble, I actually don't have an immediate need, just collect as much documentation as I can, you never know when you might need something.

Thanks, Kevin
