Title: Question about new gas gauge?
Post by: 77thor on June 11, 2010, 04:14:24 PM
I bought a new gas gauge from YearOne.

The old one had an external resistor (it measured out @ 90 ohms) on the back of it and
the new one does not have that.

Is the resistor required for the new gauge? Should I save it and re-use it?

Thanks.

Dash or cosole?  I heard that the console gauges come w/ either external or internal resistors.?.?  You might try measuring the old and new one to see if the resistance is the same?  I know, more questions than answers... ;-)

It's a dash  gauge.

Hmmm...  Welp, I don't own a car w/ a dash fuel gauge.  Are you able to measure old vs. new?  I would think the resistance is obviously needed if it was there originally.  I know the sender in the tank provides about 0-90 ohms depending on fuel level.  So, that is odd to me to have resistance at both ends...  BUT the console fuel gauge has it, too!

Did you try asking on Team Camaro?  There are a few true experts in the electrical section of that site!!!
