Title: Any aftermarket door handles that come close to NOS?
Post by: Bart Collins on April 07, 2010, 10:55:02 AM
I'm stockpiling parts and trim to begin a restoration of my 69 RS. Just paid out $70 for a pair of NOS backup light lenses! ...... Sure can't keep paying out big money on NOS parts. Guess I could rechrome my exisitng door handles if/when I rechrome the bumpers, but any of you guys have a personal favorite trim supplier that makes a decent door handle?

For my money, Trim Parts makes excellent (better than NOS) door handles and emblems.
Most of the major suppliers carry them.

Thanks for the advice, jl8dale! Wow, better than NOS. I love that. Sure glad I joined this group for these type of suggestions.

I think that CHQ is making 100 percent correct handles now.  That's Rick's manufacturing company.  Check with them.

Ooops, I think I mixed up my vendors.
I believe Jerry is right, Classic Head Quarters in a blue and white box.
Sorry for the misinformation.

Just my opinion but why dont you "fix or repair" your original parts when possible. It seems to me to be cheaper "not always" But  then you have original parts on your car! NOS parts most times are way too expensive for me & alot of after market parts are adverage at best! There are exceptions,Ive even bought some good used parts! The last thing I need is a garage full of parts that are not road worthy but still have some value so I cant throw them away!!I already have a few boxes of parts that cant be fixed"radiator" taking up space! I would love to find another project but this hobbie is getting to expensive for me.Ill keep the camaro but the rest has got to go! Good luck on your project!!

I bought door handles direct from trim parts, very nice, very close to original. But started to bubble within a year (car was garaged and covered the whole time due to trans issues).  Contacted trim parts and got a full replacement.

I always try to restore my original parts when possible. I rechromed my door handles and they turned out nice. Not too much build up behind the handle so the "knife edge" is still there.

But if you can buy 100% correct handles from CHQ and they are cheaper than rechroming I would probably do that. JMO.
