can any one tell me if there is a way to identify an original 68 and 69 Z28. the guy says that the 69 does not have an X on the cowl tag but it would seem by what i have read that not all 69s had an X
It is true that early production Norwood built '69s do not have X codes. No LA-built 69 ever had them. That makes it easy to clone a Z/28 from either. So beware. If significant money is involved I strongly recommend that you hire someone knowledgeable to examine the car PRIOR to purchase. The stuff everyone will tell you to look for [12 bolt axle, power front discs, dual exhaust] was standard equipement on every '69 Camaro SS and optional on any 8 cylinder Camaro.
Last resort: take lots of pics, post the link here.
And remember for every Z built in 69 there are about 15 today...............
They can't all be the real deal
2nd that they are more zs now than chevrolet ever built.everytime i go to the local cruise in z28 stripes are everywhere
Here in Quebec there is no problem , i have made a call to GM archives and for $50 and my serial #, they send me all the paper that proves my car is a real camaro SS with all options it was born with + my car is a X55
you could also check the rear bulkhead behind the rear seat. there should be a crayon mark X3 or X7
Norwood cars after 12A sometime during 12B 1968 should have X codes. My 12A X22 does not have the code on the trim tag but it does say X2 behind the rear seat in crayon.
Crayon is easy to add if someone is trying to fake a car.
Original crayon marks are often partly covered with the package shelf adhesive.

They all do not have "X" as the first letter. My X-77 has "B 7" and the car has blue interior. So the number is more important than the X.
The early 69 Z I am restoring now - 10D, has the X 7 on the bulkhead. 51 k mile 2 owner car in 2nd owners garage since 1973.
From what Iv'e seen any interior color other than black, a crayon letter on the bulkhead indicates the color. I have an X3 mark, car has a black interior.
My interior with X3 is also black, standard.

My X2 car has black standard also.
