John302,

Congratulations on your find.  I tried to find the same type emblem from my hometown Chevrolet dealer (opened in 1966) but with no luck.  I had the idea to cut the attachment prongs off the back (I did not want to cut holes in my back panel to permanently mount it) and affix magnetic sheet material to the back it, and neatly trim away the extra material as to not show from the front.

Can you post a picture...I'd like to see it.

In fact, it would be great to see anyone's 1st Gen's with the original dealer emblems still attached!

Thanks

They are probably pot metal. Not many places will rechrome pot metal and the few that do will chage accordingly. The process is very labor intensive and time consuming. Advanced plating in TN did some pot metal rechroming for me and it came out well.

Nice find.  I picked up two NOS emblems from the original dealership about 5 years ago.  They had a box full of them in an attack storage room.  They were perfect.  I too, cut the prongs off the back of one of them and glued some ruber magnetic material on the back.  I stick it on the back panel when I attend car show.

Try "Schilling metal & polishing Inc."  Charles Schilling is the owner & a very nice guy. They did all my chroming & polishing from the bumpers to the emblems. They did a great job! 714-543-7051, 1018 Chestnut  unit "C" Santa Ana Calif. 92701

Just my two cents, but for potmetal Pauls is the best and they will work with you. If they don't think it can be done correctly they will tell you that before starting.  Ned
