Title: Rochester 2bbl 7040236 327/350 carb for Checker Cab and Camaro??
Post by: opelitis1 on November 27, 2008, 04:35:37 PM
Going through my listing and Googled  above number "7040236  Checker" and it appears it was used in '69 for 327s and 350s with 250 or 255hp and in '70 with a 350 and the previous HP values.. Couple of lines down I see a 7029202 4bbl good numbers for a '69 Maro..  Were these caebs for the Checker Co any different in calibrations from the ones used for '69 Camaros..??  Kinda doubt they were the same 300hp carbs that were numbered good for Camaros???

Guess what kinda got me was the 7029202 carb good on '69 Camaros and also good for
Checker vehicles...  Is this the Checker Cab company i.e. the yellow cabs that ran in New York city way back then???  Ted

Yes - those boxy/roomy/ugly cabs (and the civilian "Marathon" version) were made by the Checker corporation of Kalamazoo, Miichigan, and Chevrolet supplied their drivetrains.

Were the Line codings any different on the Checker Cab unit 7029202 different from the Camaro 2902 Q-Jets???  Maybe that is why the "70" digits were omitted from the 2902 carbs??  The question begs, why are the "70" numbers omitted from the 69 Camaro units??  Not just the Camaro units, but Olds '69 H O carbs have the 70 omitted as per a "Kurt Karsch" top guru who checked his original '69 H/O Q/Jet and was found to be in fact encoded 29251 with carb dated in first 4 months with a certain line code.
