Title: Replacement clutch
Post by: jdv69z on August 10, 2008, 12:48:56 PM
Looks like I need a new clutch for my 69 Z. Car is stock 302 with 3:73 gears. Would like something for normal street driving, and an occasional run thru the gears. Don't want serious pedal pressure. Anybody with experience/recommendations on this one? Would be replacing pressure plate, disc, and throw out bearing I think.

I love the Center force dual friction we put in the 69 Z... easy pedal pressure and it has no problem even during 6000 rpm launches on 9.5" slicks...

For the normal street usage you describe, the Centerforce II (or a LuK replacement) would be a better choice; the Centerforce Dual-Friction is pretty hard on the flywheel and pressure plate surface.

I'm going to be heading down the road of clutch etc replacement too.  My driving style is similar to Jimmy i.e an occasional little rubber and going through the gears.  I trust both John and "firstgenaddict."  So what's the consensus?

Hey John,
Do you know the part number for the clutch, pressure plate, and t/o bearing for this clutch?

Not offhand, but the Centerforce site will have that application, and you can go to www.dialaclutch.com for the LuK application.

I replaced my clutch with the Centerforce II about 3 years ago and i am very happy with it on my stock Z also with the same gears as yours.

I have a Centerforce II in my 69 Z 3:73 and it hooks fine, no heavy pedal pressure.
I would use one again.

Thanks for all the input; Have finished the disassembly stage last night, and want to clean bellhousing, trans, and related parts. I will then begin re-assembly with new clutch, etc. Looking good for labor day, I hope.
