Title: 270 coil
Post by: Barefoot Dave on July 03, 2008, 09:43:13 AM
Hi guys,

On the original 270 ignition coils for cars with the ZL2 hood is the "270" supposed to be embossed, raised or painted.....or a combination? Are there any other date codes or markings on them? The car I'm looking to confirm if the coil is original or not is my 04C small block Z-11.

Thanks!!

It was a raised roll-stamp.

Thanks William...and it was just black, right? No white paint on the #'s to make them stand out? Any other date codes or info on them?

Glossy black paint on the case, no white paint on the stamping. Later service replacement coils were a flatter black and had an ink-stamped number. I heard somewhere that they were slightly smaller than OE and don't fit the bracket properly.

I have an OE 293 coil on the workbench; also has B-R under the number.

Here is a picture for reference.  This is a clean used original coil which will give you an indication of the raised letters and color.
