Title: 1968 Z RADIATOR OVER FLOW HOSE CLIP
Post by: john302 on March 23, 2008, 07:03:35 PM
Would a 68z use the over flow clip that has AB on it to hold the hose?It i s on the radiator tank below the id tag. There is also the built in clip on the radiator mount.  What is correct????  thanks John

John,
I've seen different lettered clips used, haven't seen a pattern yet. AB is pretty common.
Don't recall seeing one on the rad mount??

There is just a loop of metal in the pass side mount.  With original tank nipple pointing towards the drivers side, this loop makes the hose twist a lot.  I have BC and AF clips.

Kind of an old post, but I just noticed what John was talking about on my radiator.  There is a clip about 3 inches  above the AB clip in the photo on the CRG page on radiators, of the 69 OF tank picture with the tag installed.  Mine has this on the passenger side mounting  bracket and looks like it is for a hose.  As Kevin says it kind of twists the hose a lot, but what is this for?

IMO  and its just that, the hook on the pass side mounting bracket (not the ab clip) could have been used to hang the radiator during painting. again just a thought.

I know this is a really old post but I've been looking many hours for things and noticed on HBC's site that they state that that hook on the passenger side bracket is the overflow hose clip called out in the AIM 11-13 B6 (68).  However, since the battery tray sometimes wouldn't allow the use of that clip, the AB, BC or whatever kind was used to reroute the hose.

There's a clip about 3" above the lower hose the holds the overflow hose. It's clipped (soldered) into the header of the radiator. The overflow hose when installed would dump directly onto the lower hose if too short. Mine goes to the curbside of the bottom hose....Joe

I was just referring to the OP's question of which one to use (clip on tank or loop on bracket) as the AIM doesn't show the clip, only the metal loop on the bracket.  (Take a look, I never paid much attention to it until now).  John Z replied in another post that the clip was supplied by Harrison, which still makes me wonder why it doesn't show on the AIM, 68 or 69.  I just found what I thought was a reasonable answer, just 9 years too late, as to WHY it was used, when a loop is already present on the bracket.  When questions like this go un-answered for 9 years, I just thought finally getting one, even late would be interesting.

BTW, It's interesting to see you have a Corvette Bronze Z from LA, March.  I had an SS in High School that was Corvette Bronze, LA and I think Feb. or March.  I wish I would have re-painted it that color as I think it's absolutely stunning, especially with the white vinyl top as mine had.  Back then I thought it looked like rust because I had never seen it on car.  (Mine had been repainted and part of the white vinyl top had come off so it looked like rust underneath.)

I think I see what you're asking as is the original person. You wouldn't be able to use the one that comes on the mounting plate. it's too tight between that bracket & the battery tray & would mostly pinch the overflow hose. If that not what you're looking for, send me a PM with a phone number & we'll figure this out. My radiator is original to the car....Joe

No, I've got it thank you.  I was just trying to answer a 9 year old question as to why that one on the side of the mount doesn't work.  I have an original radiator too and was looking in the AIM and it doesn't show the clip on the tank so that's why he was asking the question.  I never worried about it because I know where it goes.  I just got the answer, why, the other day.
