Anyone know what I need to do to run a single wire internal regulator alternator in my 69? Did they all have an external regulator? Thanks
It's easy...I put one on my '68 and it works like a charm. You have to do away with the white and blue wires and just run a single 10ga wire from the alternator to the horn relay, then another 10ga wire to the battery or starter solenoid if the battery in is the trunk. You can actually use your existing harness to do it if you study the schematics and make the right splices. The only downside is the generator light on the dash won't work anymore without a special diode wired in. Hope this helps and good luck!

I read the articles at www.madelectrical.com before I ordered my engine harness and went with a custom harness that incorporates a three wire internally regulated alternator. Check out their info on headlight relays and splice blocks too.
The 3-wire works as well, but with a true 1-wire alternator it really is that simple. I have had no problems at all on my '68 using the 1-wire setup. Just be sure the 1-wire 7127-type alternator has an internal diode that cuts the output when the switch is turned off, otherwise the engine will continue to run. Any competent starter/alternator shop can build a 1-wire alternator for around $65.
