Title: Chrysler's competitive 302 test
Post by: KurtS on October 23, 2026, 11:31:57 PM
Like all the manufacturers, Chrysler bought vehicles to perform competitive testing on them. In this case, they tested a 69 Z28. They were also nice enough to also test the off-road camshaft and the cross-ram intake on the same engine.
What is unusual is that the report survived! Thanks to Chuck Brick (aka COPOZ/28) who saved a copy and provided it to us.
I've placed it on the CRG Technical Library page: https://www.camaros.org/library.shtml#docs
There are 4 sections (70+ pages total). Here is the Test Summary (https://www.camaros.org/pdf/Chrysler_302_test_sum.pdf).

Interesting read. Wonder why they didn't include the tri power 340 for comparison to the 2x4?

Thanks for including!

If the dyno read higher than 6000 RPM, different story. My 302 makes peak 370 hp @ 6997 rpm's. Pretty cool document!

Road & Track tested a Z28 Camaro in a 1968 issue and hit 132 mph in 4th gear at 7100 rpm:
