I wasn't planning to buy a new car, but my daily driver was totaled in an accident, so I needed a replacement. The 1998 Camaro just came out with the LS-1 engine, so I went to Cormier Chevrolet in Long Beach and took out a new Z28 which had a six-speed transmission for a test drive. I was impressed with how easy it was to operate the Camaro and how smooth the power came on with the new LS-1 motor. Unfortunately, the dealer only had one Z28 with a manual transmission and it was Bright Red. I decided to order a new Z28 and asked about the 1LE option, which featured double-adjustable Koni shocks. The salesman said "Please don't select the 1LE option as it will probably take months before the car is assembled as it is a rarely ordered option." I really wanted those Koni shocks, but the only other available option with the 1LE was a 10 disc CD player. Although air conditioning was standard, I couldn't get power door locks, so I didn't order the. 1LE. I did order a number of other options and was glad I got the traction-control as it was much too easy to get the rear end loose, especially when the roads were wet I still have the Z28 today and it is the only vehicle I ever purchased with an extended warranty, which I never used.
Nice. Yes! And it was probably cheaper to buy the shocks aftermarket and then install.
