Hey everyone, my 69 Z28 based on the VIN (124379N616410) was built in March of 1969 at the Norwood, OH plant.
I believe the standard rear end was a 3:83 geared "BU" stamped rear axle, is that correct? I have the protect-o-plate (which as far as I know is real), has a BV0317G 3 stamped axle, which would indicate this was built with the 4:10:1 optioned 12 bolt rear end? Is that correct?
I also was looking to validate whether my DZ302 engine stamp which is V0306DZ is correct to the VIN?
Adding some photos, look forward to any help this group can provide. I am new to this, so still learning.
Thanks, Sean
BU is a 3.73 gear ratio. Your axle stamp looks authentic to me compared to many confirmed BU BV E axle stamps i have observed along with my own.
Thanks, appreciate the feedback. How about the engine stamps??Any thoughts on those?
Please provide a clear picture of the engine pad stamping. From what I can see it might be OK.
Not sure if this is any better??
Why do those two stampings and the engine pad surfaces look so different if they are next to each other on the same engine pad?

They're not on the same surface. The engine assm plant/date are on the top by the RH cyl head. The other is stamped into the raw casting down by the oil filter....Joe

Why are there diagonal lines across the photo? It is on the whole large size photo.
Hi, yes, those diagonal lines are on the entire photo, not sure if it's picture quality or what. I have been trying to get better access to get some cleaner photos.

Ah yes, I didn't realize we were talking about a 69.
