Welcome aboard! Best to post pictures of everything you have engine and trans related plus a picture of the VIN and trim tag. Do the hidden VIN's match?

Assuming you mean the hidden vin matches the vin tag and not the engine, correct?

Post pics of the engine and transmission stampings. Or email to me.

We have had cases of VIN stampings being off a few cars, not sure if I remember any that far off.

I can believe the engine and transmission being off by 1, but not 15 away from the VIN. To me it doesn't matter what engine application, because its way off by a bunch. Last 3 being 494 vs 509....I'll be following this thread with interest and have learned to believe anything is possible with a reasonable explanation.

The VIN numbers were stamped on the engine and transmission on the engine dress line:

https://www.camaros.org/drivetrain.shtml#PartialVINs

As the numbers are only off by a single digit, the operator could have changed the gang stamp by mistake.  As for how the assembly ended up in 124379N582494, the only thing I could come up with is that this particular Camaro was pulled off the assembly line for some reason and the later serialized engine/transmission assembly was installed in error, which would only be the case if 582494 was assembled before 582508/582509.
