Title: Seeking history or suggestions to track down my parents 1969 Z28
Post by: kwow823 on May 30, 2026, 02:12:39 PM
Not sure this is actually the right place to post this but I'm looking to track down details and maybe even the car itself that my uncle and then my parents used to own in the early 1970's.  It was a 1969 Z-28 in was I believe was Fathom Green with white stripes, and a 4 speed originally sold in the St. Louis, MO area.

It had a wild history and some of what has been shared includes:

The car was initially stolen from St. Louis, MO before it was taken to an auto auction in the area. It was then purchased by a used car lot in Alton, Illinois where my uncle first bought it.  Around October 1972, the FBI tracked it down and confiscated it from my uncle while the original theft was investigated.  He eventually got it back and the state of Illinois issued it a SOS VIN.  The car changed hands before my parents bought it and my mom drove it for a few years.  It had also been wrecked and had a number of parts stolen from it several times before and after my parents owned it.  After my parents traded it in for a newer Camaro, it made its way back to St. Louis and then they lost track of it.

I'm trying to find a way to request title history from when my parents owned it to obtain the SOS VIN and do a better search but am open to any other suggestions on tracking it down if it even still exists.

Attached is a pic of the car.  Appreciate any guidance or suggestions.

Thanks!

Kyle
