Title: 1978 Pontiac Firebird
Post by: dannystarr on April 16, 2026, 02:36:33 PM
My neighbor's bought this car. I went over to see it. Pretty darn clean ride inside and out. His wife had this exact car in high school. Even the same color. Only her car had vinyl interior and a spoiler.
I mentioned to him to start a fresh file. Change the wipers/PCV/engine oil/filter/trans and rear fluid/lube all joints/complete tune-up/flush radiator cooling system/thermostat/brake inspection and clean areas/pack front wheel bearings etc. etc. etc.

That is a great looking 1978 Firebird.   I don't recall ever hearing about these special edition Redbirds or Skybirds.

yeah - I remember Pontiac doing these.....they had a Blue Bird (light blue in color) and this Red Bird.

Pontiac tried to appeal to the ladies.......

These are neat.

Nice 1978 Esprit Red Bird!  I see that it still has its original pellet catalytic convertor.  I had to replace the one on my 1979 Trans Am with a two-way convertor in 1999 as the smog technical said it probably wouldn't pass the next time.  I spent a lot of time preparing the Trans Am as I had to smog it earlier this year and even replaced the brake booster filter, which I bought on eBay as no one locally had it in stock.  Tough checking all the vacuum hoses and plugging the vacuum advance on the distributor to check the timing at idle (18 degrees) when the engine is hot as you have to careful not to get burned.  I have all the original documents, warranty repairs, and service invoices from the previous two owners.

Nice car , my 77 trans am SE has some similar things like gold steering wheel and dash insert. Also the stripes and wheels are similar. I have never seen the Redbird edition before. If you like horsepower these are not for you.

Yes it is not a big HP machine at 178hp. But it is a Chevy 350 4 Barrel. Instead of the Pontiac 301 2 barrel. It's just going to be a cruiser anyway. Trying to get her to take it to some car shows. That's not her thing, we'll see.
That is a beautiful TA in black. One of my all time fav cars growing up. The '77 Kawi LTD 1000 in blue, the Yamaha midnight special and the '77 TA both in black with gold trim. Good Times!
