Title: Distributor codes
Post by: mrile on February 10, 2026, 09:01:18 PM
Looking for some help on distributors.  I looked all over the site for coding (part numbers) information on distributors but can't find anything.  Can someone point me in the right direction or have the information?
I have a 1969 L6 230ci (I know the engine is original), & I think it has the original distributor (1110499) but I am looking to confirm.

Also, how to de-cipher the date code would be helpful.  Thanks in advance.

Date code should be YMDD, so 9K23 is 1969 October 23 day. Months are A (Jan) through H (Aug), "I" was not used, then J (Sep) through M (Dec).

That info is from Colvin's "Chevrolet by the numbers 1965-1969". This book has Distributor codes, but not for L6 :(

When checking my 1969 Motors repair manual, it lists two distributors for L6-230 1110459 (manual) & 1110460 (auto).  The manual does not actually say which one is manual vs auto, but looking at other engines, the lower number looks like the manual versions.

My books only go up to 1971, but a google search says 1110499 is a 1973 or 74 model.

Thanks, it is in-fact 460.  I found the answer in the "Tune up" sheets on this site.

If there is interest, I can work on putting something together on the distributor numbers for each year and application, for easier viewing.

I have several distributors for example pics.
