Title: 67 l30 m20 convertible rear springs
Post by: philip on January 28, 2026, 12:36:40 PM
Hi guys , from france,  i own my L30M20 67 since 1988 and i restored it litle by litle.
Last year the engine , this year the rear end.
I remove the spring today  , and instead of a single leaf , i have a second one bellow and no pad under the leaf.
I know that export models where equiped with F41 option.
Does this second leaf is a part of this option ?

Thanks KurtS...

That's strange cause there were  not a lot of parts avalaible in france before internet and i own this car since 1988
Maybe a GM mod for french export ?

I have the confirmation.
It's original for french import , i found the correct paint color on the small leaf , and a friend 67 convertible have the same small leaf.
Generaly , export models have differets settings for suspension koni choc absorbers....
European people don't like too soft ...

KurtS the french camaro is back, i know you where at the old one.

Here a picture of the both.
The leaf added by GM for the export models is 95cm [35"] long.

Hmm, I'm still a doubter that it was an original assembly line part. There are no parts in the part manuals and there were several different rear springs for the various applications. https://www.camaros.org/images/pages/chassis/springs_67.jpg
Adding an extra leaf would make the spring taller than the spring perch - that's not a minor change.

Correct based on what? What color?

That may have been a local modification made by a shop. Might have done both cars.

Please show the spring perch area with the spring in place if you have a photo.

Was there a rubber spring isolator pad in place between the leaf spring and the spring perch when you took it apart?

Do you know if the ref of the spring is stamped on the leaf (3909941 or 3920220 for my car ) ?
 If yes , where ?
I know there's a paper tag with 2 letters  but in about 60 years , gone..

There are not stamped #'s on the springs.

Thanks kurtS.....i will send you by email a PowerPoint a friend make several years ago to explain the differences between US and french model.

So what to do ? Réinstall the added leaf or remove it ?

Technically, if they can't be validated, they should be removed. However, it's your car, and if you want to keep them on then do so. It really depends on what your goal is.

I don't think they are original but I can't say for sure.

If proof can be found that they are original, I would be interested in knowing the details as to when, why and how the change was made.

Best wishes.

I'd tend to install them - at this point the original springs are probably a bit tired.
