Title: 1968 aftermarket front and rear shock absorber advice
Post by: Ue on January 13, 2026, 02:48:06 AM
Hi all.
I have a 1968 SS/RS Camaro with a 396 big block, M20 gearbox. Positraction diff and multi leaf suspension.
What are some aftermarket shocks that you recommend for just mild street handling?
I dont drive the car often and it's never in high performance situations.... although I do like to give it a boot every now and again,
I've just pulled out the old shockers and they were completely stuffed. Also far from original, so just looking for recommendations on quality, aftermarket replacement shocks that give good handling.
I'm also in Australia.
Any suggestions?

Koni's are a good recommendation! I think Bilstein or KYB are also a good choices.

Don't get the repro spiral shocks......the ride is not that good....IMO.  Been there - doing that.

Agree, reproduction spirals seem best used for showing, not pleasure.

Thanks everyone.
The Hotchkis looked good, but a bit tricky to get from Summit to Australia. I ended up going for the Koni's. Found an Ebay supplier in Sydney that had them at the lowest price and with the fastest delivery.
Thank you, 169INDY, for showing me the right part numbers! That made it a lot easier.
 :)
Cheers everyone,
Ue

KYB Gas-A-Justs are like a steel rod and are very harsh. I've thrown them in the garbage. KYB Excel Gs are stock replacements and provide a comfortable ride.
