Title: Sheet metal stampings
Post by: David K on August 23, 2022, 10:54:54 PM
I knew but didn't really bother to look and photograph until today. Apparently the right quarter was covered in body filler. I have receipts for the genuine GM parts and know the only stamped piece left that's original is the trunk. I posted pictures and would like a bit of help for production dates if possible.
Right fender
Left quarter
Trunk-car is an 11E

Go back to one of your previous threads and click the link in the upper left corner and look through provided data.  But sheetmetal dates fall inline with the build date of 11E.  If I had to guess the "2" is probably 42 but until you repaint the car no one will ever know for sure.

But here's a shortcut.

There's dozens of stamped dates all over the car. Almost every metal part is dated, even the mounting plates in the door jambs that the hinges screw into.

So is there a chart or page that I can start to decipher my car?.....at least for the original parts? Some would be Julian, some would be another. 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫🤔🤔🤔

So for my trunk lid, the T was the plant that made it (wherever that plant is) and the 47 was the week it was made.

The fender 43 was the 43rd week.

Most of the panels, I've found the date codes.  99.9% sure the car has original quarter panels.  Where should I look to to find the date stampings?  Haven't found them yet.

Date stamp on quarter panels can be seen with trunk lid open.  They are located in the upper radiuses corner of the water channels on each side.

Here's an old thread with some speculation on what Fisher plants the letter prefixes represented:
