on a early build Camaro did the small ground wire off the battery cable mount & ground to the fender or the core support
Depends on battery option and engine option.

Standard battery or HD?
standard Y55
Core support
I wondered why you asked so I did some research.
Maybe not everyone is aware, 6 cylinder and Z/28s used a reverse polarity battery + term on the left. No matter which battery or cable configuration was used, the - ground wire is terminated on the fender brace.
However for '68, reverse polarity batteries terminated on the core support. I assume you are wondering if this continued into early '69 production. The '69 AIM shows the fender brace termination but Rev 5 dated 3-3-69 states "NEG GROUND DWG REVISED." Doesn't state what was revised.
The late John Z once advised not placing much stock in the dates in the AIM. I checked the January '69 Hot Rod magazine road test of a '69 Z/28. Early Van Nuys car built on or about 10/1/68. Pic shows a reverse polarity battery, ground wire terminated on the fender brace.
Here's the pic
Original car and 2nd owner since late 69, Oct of 68 NOR Z in my hometown terminated on the core support.
MY CAR IS A 3RD WEEK OF SEPT 68 ANY ONE HAVE A GOOD PICTURE OF WHERE IT WAS INSTALLED ON THE CORE SUPPORT THANKS
... sounds like you could just find your favorite location (don't drill any new holes) and no one would ever prove you wrong... :)

Info on the batteries, included the reversed terminals.

This is the hole for the terminal ground on my X77. Unmolested tag and "A" dated tank visible, support was removed intact many, many years back (too long ago, as a matter of fact).

Please disregard the brown recluse molted skin shell. Gotta love 'em -
JMHO... I have always said with no authority, that I thought it should be stated as "Reverse Post", not "Reverse Polarity". Rev Pol would mean you have power coming out of the ground side post. Because you are reversing the polarity. Reverse post would mean the posts switch positions in the battery and the electrons follow the post to the other side. Just an observation I guess.
As far as ground straps... all of my cars that are original '68 Z/28's have the ground strap attached to the radiator support with an interior exterior tooth lock washer. I have never seen an original '68 Z/28 with the ground strap on the fender. Out of 7,199 it exists ?? ... Danny
Something I thought was very cool on one of my cars... A factory arrow marking on the core support heading towards the radiator. I wondered if that was to show this car is a Z/28 and needs the ground strap on the core? Anybody know? Danny
Danny: How do you know that is a factory marking? (the long big arrow).... I'd be a skeptic of that...
Starting another post.. Danny
