Title: Found anothet old pic
Post by: janobyte on January 05, 2020, 09:15:24 AM
Cropped out of a collage, sent via cell,  far from good quality. But the only one I know of with the glass hood on it. And I forgot about the Weld front runners. My favorite look of the car, and it had a few.

Reminiscing now😌

The way it sat there, had a 13:1 406 with a very radical cam, 3600 Transmission Specialties convertor, full manual 350 trans. Frame tied, ladder bars, 4:88's. 1-3/4" hookers flowing into "burned out"(has to be a few old timers who know what I'm talking about) cherry bombs. I guess slow by today's standards, but a terror on the streets 30 years ago. Just a few years later,,my girlfriend became my wife, had a son and a house. I think between that picture and today, we did Goodguys, and one or two Super Chevys. Maybe 50 street miles...

Now, when I talk next project,,period is going on the Z this spring, then I'm booked with the house rest of the year, plus my son is getting married. Next year aggressively looking for another 68. I really dig that "day 2" look so talked about today, but with more of a dart based, big cube smallblock and caltracs. Strictly strip car, 2 race seats and a cage.

Ashgold.

Probably more of a car for TC or Yenko sites.Shared all my numbers and inspection marks off the Z here.

I lovingly poke fun at, and am so glad to see how big the Day 2 thing has taken off, points awarded of all things. They just look "right"

But anyways, and I think I already talked about, one of the last times I had the car at the strip. Flat trailered it up there, and was bs'n with other guys in line. Saw this crowd around the trailer and one gentleman spoke up on how I "cultivated the look" Mind you, nooobody was doing the black steel rears and snorkle hoods anymore. I laughed and thanked him saying really wasn't going for a look,,just happened to be affordable. Swapmeet stuff.
I just love the grassroots, simple look of the day 2 cars.As much as I hated the over chromed, prostreet era. More of a yenko thread, but guys surf both sites, so cheers to you fanning the flames👍

The most vivid memories of the cool cars from my youth, ahem, late 70s, all had the same things: "snorkel" hood scoops, like the one on jano's, trick wheels and Moroso gold valve covers. Occasionally, a tubbed car, but still mostly only seen in those west coast magazines. Every Camaro (& others), it seemed, that meant business, ran that scoop
