Title: 68 bb timing cover /oil pan
Post by: john302 on April 18, 2019, 04:04:51 PM
Does a 68 Big Block timing cover have a bolt below the center of the balancer? The bolt goes through the oil pan and threads into the timing cover. In 1967 it used this extra bolt and in 69 wasn't used. Not sure in 68 . thanks

 I don't know about a '68 BB, but I don't see that bolt on neither '67 L35's I have.

Just  checked 2 68 timing cover's has hole in center but no nut in cover. Checked my 68 oil pan had no hole. The hole is for front timing seal which has little tits on the seal. Check out seal gm #3909800 and you will see a tit right in the center where you are talking about! Hope this helps you.

The hole is for the tab on the oil pan seal to keep it in place.

Is it true that some timing covers are dated and some are not? in 68 and 69
