Was the Power steering box on a 1969 camaro, from the factory painted or bare metal?
As far as I'm aware, steering boxes were unpainted cast iron.
Thanks Tim.
Vince; Tim is much more knowledgable than me but, I've always heard taht steering gear boxes were painted from Saginaw a specific slate blue color. I'll see if I can find more on it.

From my experience most all components of the power steering unit are "natural" including the case, inspection cover, backlash adjuster screw & lock-nut and the input shaft. The exceptions are the output shaft splines (pitman) are copper plated and the access cover bolts are manganese phosphated.
I have seen some restorations that were natural with some paint marks on them.
