Title: '67 Starter Solenoid WIring Harness Retainer?
Post by: Buzz67 on August 18, 2018, 11:46:11 PM
Hello Members,

Can anyone tell me if '67 L35 starters had these starter solenoid wiring harness retainers? HBC lists this as a 67 part, but it's not in the AIM. Was this perhaps added later as a service bulletin item or wasn't it used in '67?

Thanks,
Buzz

Hi Ed!

It looks like I ALSO need to work on my usage of the AIM! I was only looking on the L35, Sheet A5 and expecting that to tell the whole story. WHOOPS!! Lesson Learned.

Thanks for setting me straight,
Buzz

That sure looks like the one in the 67 AIM UPC12/A9.
What is different, Dave?

Shoot. I already purchased and installed the Heartbeat version. Anyone know of a source for the '67 retainer? I'm still working on that side of the car and it's very accessible right now.

I'm not so convinced you have the wrong clip, Buzz. After researching this more I see the clip change from p/n 3856490 to 3906181 as per AIM 12/A9. The revision date is 10-7-66 but the transition can be afterwards.  The 3856490 clip, without the 'loop', was the type used on Corvettes. I can see why it had no loop being the design of the Corvette exhaust manifold. With the Camaro's log type design the loop wouldn't hit it nor prevent it from being removed. The AIM clearly shows the loop (and yes I do know the AIM isn't 100% correct all the time).
But, if you want to locate a source just in case you can get it at places like ZIP Corvette here:
