Title: Original L79 valve covers
Post by: opelitis1 on May 29, 2018, 07:29:55 AM
I'd appreciate a couple of photos if someone could post 'em.  I have 2  sets  and they are both original, but one set is heavier than the other.  Both of them have the oblong 0 lying down on the lower part of the valve covers.  One set has slight  pushrod rubbing marks on the inside..  Maybe I should've used a thicker set of valve cover gaskets.  What years and what engines did these beasts come on.??
Thanks for your response(s) in advance.
Ted

Not sure about the L79 but most stock GM covers will fit upside down and the rockers will rub. Set the on a flat surface and you can see the angle. Ask me how I know?

68 302 Z28.  No L79 Camaros.

Here a link to a set for sale currently on ebay.  FWIW his pricing is a little ambitious.  If you have photos of them shoot them over to me and I'll post them up for you if you'd like.

Thanks Kelley King and Cook DW for your replies.  Invaluable info as I just might've put the covers on upside down.  Kinda looks that way and with the pushrods a rubbing, lightly I may add, but, nonetheless.  I have to get the two or 3  sets cleaned up before I post 'em up.
Encore, thanks for the answers and e-bay photos.

I did the upside down in the 70,s and while retightening the intake notices the covers moving slightly while running. Later on I have seen covers with holes rubbed in them.

1967-68 L79 Novas and Chevelles did have these valve covers didn't they?

67 and older valve covers didnt have PCV and breather provisions. they still had the vent tube out the back of the block. 68 was the first year of the PCV holes. Corvette L79's had the finned valve covers, a L79 Nova had the non PCV covers with the plastic 327 badge in the middle of the valve cover (chromed). Not sure on the Chevelle L79, they might have just received chromed chevy script covers.
