I am looking for any information or pictures on what the original oil drain plug would look like for a 1968 Camaro. The car has a 350 in it, it's supposedly an SS (not sure if that matters on this issue). I see so many different kinds out there for sale from vendors and 2nd party, not sure what it a correct finish or marking. Went through the other forum discussion and didn't see any images. Thanks for any help.

That's because there isn't just
ONE correct plug. There were multiple suppliers so multiple markings.

Good to know Ed, thank you for the info.
Here are just 3 of the many I've seen. Different (or even NO) markings, but they all have one thing in common. They all have the "shoulder".

Looks like SB are different styles than BB?

Nope. All engines used the same size drain plug (1/2"-20 thread), but there WERE two different sizes for the hex head used. Up until sometime in 1968 (exact date unknown), the head used a 7/8" wrench, and then after that they used a 9/16" wrench. All were interchangeable other than that.
However, in answer to the OP's original question, even though the books say the changeover date was sometime in 1968, I've never seen a 68 Camaro with the early 7/8" head plug. Another interesting research topic?

Hi Ed,
The size is what I meant in relation to the type (or style). I checked both 67 L35's (March and April assembly dates) and they have the 7/8" plug though with different head markings.

Our 68 has a RSC drain plug.

Here ya go Mike. 03D 68
Hi Darrell,
Mine looks like the 55-68 style picture posted. Though the usage period is said to be 55-68 it looks like the ones posted for '68, including yours, is the smaller head style.
Thanks!
Mike
Here's a drain plug on a '67 302 Z-28 engine. It uses the 7/8" wrench.
