Title: Shackle color
Post by: hotrod68 on January 01, 2007, 11:28:52 PM
Tonight I started cleaning the rear suspension components on my '68. After I scraped off all the crud and rust and undercoating on a spring shackle, it appeared to have been natural steel with no protective coating at all. What's right? I've seen them zinc-plated, but never natural metal. Help!!!

Guess no one knows. I'm going with zinc-plate.

Lleaf spring shackles should be 30 percent gloss black according to Jerry's book

Yes, I have a assembly line photo of the rear ends being assembled and the shackles are all black....
