Title: 12E LOS 68 Camaro in Corvette Bronze
Post by: ZLP955 on January 20, 2016, 04:32:20 AM
A friend is interested in a 68 coupe project for sale. It's a LOS car, tag date of 12E (1967) and is paint code O-O (Corvette Bronze) with 714 custom black interior. In checking out the numbers on the CRG exterior paint code table, I noted that this exterior color was added to the available colors in January 1968. Is it unusual to see a December 1967 car with this color not being 'officially' available yet, or could the factory have accepted the order knowing that the color was about to be added to the line-up, and 12E is right at the end of anticipated December production anyway?
Here's a picture of the tag for reference:

I don't see the color as a problem based on the tag.

Let me do some checking this evening when I have some time.  :)

Corvette Bronze = a FANTASTIC color on whatever car it is used on.. :)   I love it...

When I was in the USAF, a friend put 1/8" pin stripe tape just below the break line down the sides of his '68 Camaro (Corvette bronze of course).. He left it on a couple of years, then around '71? pulled the tape off...  Where the tape was pulled off the paint was a tiny bit darker than the rest (which had faded a bit? or been polished to a lighter color?)..  Anyway, the effect was subtle but great.. :)  I wonder where that car is now?  He may still have it but I can't remember his name... :(

PS.  it's a rare color, as even Corvettes only used the color a couple of years...

Don't mention this to Sport if you see him at the February flea market - he'll get cranked up again. I've been at him a long time to admit there is any other color in '68 other than CB -

Steve

That's a late 12E car - I guess the production date (or at least the ship date) was in January 68.

:)   Don't we just love *passion and enthusiasm* .. regardless of what it's for??  :)

Speaking of the 7feb swap meet, What time do I need to get there to park in the adjacent parking area; I'm so tired of trudging up and down that damn hill to the lower lots.. :)

Gary,

Our bunch usually arrives at 5:30 - the closer the spectators make it to 6:00 or 6:30, the better the parking spot. The hill is formidable, especially in the cold.

I'll send you a PM.

Regards,
Steve

Very pretty color better than that old muskrat blue (Lemans). As far as the Feb swap meet early bird get's the worm!  I am already ready to go. I smell Camaro parts out there!

Don't get me started on defending LeMans - I'll tie your feet together and you'll never get past Building A on the 7th -

Just kidding, of course. Better hope the caramel corn guy isn't there, either !

Steve

OK, thanks for the replies about the tag. Not sure if a deal can be worked out, seller asking almost US$10k local equivalent yet car is missing the front end sheetmetal and has old accident damage to driver side quarter/wheelhouse area. Waiting on confirmation of the drivetrain numbers, but car has good indicators of being a factory RS/SS, and agree that is a very nice color and the car would look very sharp if restored..... I'd love to buy it myself but too much on the go already  :(

Let me know if you get the VIN.
Have you confirmed the car was bronze originally?

Kurt the VIN is 124378L322696 and the car is still painted CB, including the saddlebags and cowl. I'll email you pictures if you'd like them.
