I have a question and really don't know where to direct this to so, I am hoping you can give me some direction. I am looking at buying a 1967 Camaro ss350 with the rally sport package and while looking the car over I looked at the vin number on the plate inside the drivers door and compared it to the partial vin that is stamped on the engine block. on the vin number where there is a 5 stamped the engine block has the number 2 stamped but all of the other numbers and letters are the same. The people owned this car since 1969 and bought it from a friend and they are telling me they have known this car since new and the engine is original. How can I get that documented otherwise the car is not worth what they are asking.
Have you checked the trans VIN? If it and the engine's VIN exhibit the same characteristics they are likely original as the stamps were set a person not a machine, however if you want a piece of mind so for when you sell it then be sure to get a competent Camaro appraiser to certify the car.
Can you take close-up photos (use your camera's "macro" function - the little flower symbol - so they'll be in focus) of the VIN plate in the door opening and of the VIN derivative stamp on the block pad and post them here for us?
