Title: 1968 Camaro Z28 without a Tach??
Post by: dannystarr on May 15, 2014, 03:54:26 PM
Is there a way to order a 68' Z/28 without a tachometer from the factory? ... Danny

Think I might have found my own answer. Did more searching here. But please anyone chime in anyway with some more details. Or how many documented no tach Z/28's are in the database?

Gauges and spoilers were optional with the Z28 until April/May 69 when a tachometer became a required part of the package and spoilers became part of the package.

Not sure about the database but I would venture to guess that well over half were ordered without tach & gauges.  I would also say the same about the spoilers.  Cowl plenum was also an option which died off after the first part of production (1968).

From Kurt's Productions Options article:
"Later 69 Z28's were the only model that required a tachometer (via either U16 or U17). "

I owned a new 68 and 69 Z/28 and neither had a factory tach

Danny, a lot of 1968 Z28s did not have a tachometer. It had to be included with option U17.
