Northern CA 68' Z/28... Real?

This car looks like a replica to me. What say you all? Emblem WAY to far back on fender among other things. This car is just a few minutes from me. But I don't think I wanna even go see it.

Rohnert Park is 10 mi. from my home....maybe I'll go take a look.  See some minor non stock parts other than the intake, msd, etc. (example hose clamps).  What are the other major items to look for to see if it's a real Z28 vs clone?  Interior looks unrestored (scratches around glove box door, etc.).  Not planning to buy it, just hate phoney advertising.

Mine measures about 2 1/2 inches from the leading edge of the front fender. Mine is a Norwood car but that shouldn't make a difference.

I think that deminsion on an original car with original fenders is an inch or so but I would have to measure...Joe

Danny, if you want to go look at it just to go look at it, can you get the VIN and the trim tag info for me? Also the VIN on the engine pad. I can't see the last few numbers.

As for it being a real Z, the chances are doubtful. Yes, it has the 6k tach, but it appears to be a repop, and the gauges are 70's Nova. That and the small aftermarket tach at the lower part the dash tells me it's not working, so it probably didn't even come with the gauges. The steering wheel is hard to tell, but it may also be a repop. The horn button is for sure. The woodgrain radio bezel's from a Firechicken and the front and rear spoiler has more than likely been added. Check for the larger diameter torson rod in the trunk for that. Aftermarket shifter and cheapo traction bars as well.

Check for the 4 piston calipers and 12 bolt. He says it's got a 3.73 posi axle, but he didn't say if it's a 12 bolt or not. See what the VIN is on the transmission and if you can get at it, what the axle code and date are.

It's currently at 18k, which is about right for a car that's not really a Z. I wouldn't go too much over that unless he can prove what he says.

Ed, I think you correct on the repo tach, colors are pretty dull, compared to my original.

Has a set of 68 Nova black faced console gauges too.

Most of the blue interior is original as the color differences were as dramatic on the originals with the side covers on the seats and the coves behind the door handle.

Check the matercylinder stamp and the booster date, also see if there is any evidence of old white paint on the cowl top or down the firewall etc.
I don't think the car has been restored.

Does the trunk jamb closest to the rear glass look as though there are remnants of a previous stripe or are those reflections in BOTH photos?
