My 69 Convertible is coded 712 but has black houndstooth installed. It has been there a long time and is started to show it's age. I am considering new seat covers front and back. I really like the houndstooth but know it's not original. The houndstooth looks good and wears very well in the Summer months in Charlotte. It is just not as hot as my 711 in my Z/28. I have never owned black customweave. Does it breathe better than the 711? I am torn on what to go back with original or houndstooth for the look and comfort. Any adivice?

Thanks,

Lawrence

I do not think you can get any actual "comfortweave" these days. Someone correct me if I am wrong but the repro comfortweave stuff you can get these days just looks like the original breathable fabric but it is actually solid vinyl textured surface.

I think Mark is right unless the version produced by TMI is different?

Unless your vehicle is bone stock except the seats, and even if it is I would say you are at liberty to continue with the Houndstooth.
The Houndstooth are far cooler and more comfortable then any of the vinyl in the heat.

So the original comfortweave material would breathe better than the repro stuff of today? I had no idea? The cloth just breathes so well and looks better IMO but again...not original. The deluxe door panels are all original. I guess I will go back with the black houndstooth unless someone sales comfortweave that breathes.

Thanks

Have you tried Legendary Interiors for their comfort weave? They are good folks and would probably send a sample if you ask.

It is a quick and easy change should the need arise in the future, build it like you want it, it's not a color change requiring endless hours of work.

In addition to TMI's reproduction of the Comfort Weave - samples below, thread on TC http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=202767

Legendary makes a good reproduction, a bit lighter in weight then the originals which makes it cooler too. Some info: http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=155156

Also if you are looking for top notch raw fabric, my notes say that SMS Auto Fabrics http://www.smsautofabrics.com/ reproduces the original look and feel of comfort weave very well and sell by the yard. Ask for a sample, then if you like your shop can make you full custom covers.

Here is TMI's for visuals:
