We’ve had some requests for this one over the past year or so and it will be the next project we look at. Hopefully we have enough to work with from the original copy. I get pictures of various decals sent to me on a regular basis and unfortunately I cannot remember who sent this original as I would like to give him some credit. I’m assuming it was from a member here. If you look at the pictures below you should get a good idea of what we enthusiasts are dealing with when it comes to some of this stuff. On both repros you could literally go line by line and find errors. Most of these would be spacing and alignment to the lines above and below. How about adding an “S” to the word Emission on line one? Let’s be honest, not everybody cares about correctness of decals, but we cater to those that do care. We’ve done several of these Emissions Decals in the past and hopefully this one will come out as good as the others.

Don,
My car has the original still in place, but unfortuantely I was wiping down many years ago (back in the '70") with a rag with thinner on it.. and it took off the lettering.. but I can measure the size for you if you like.... unfortunately no more letters.. Oh. . and you can put me down for a couple....

Please do. I can compare it to the size I was given previously which was approximately 6 1/4" by 1 1/2". Don: I just measured carefully using a machinist' steel ruler with 1/32 gradations. The dimension of my original label is: 6-1/8" wide x 1-7/16" talll, and it has 1/4" R on the corners. This one is 43 yrs old, but has been out of the weather and out of the UV/sunlight in my basement garage since 1980; It could have 'shrunk' a little over the years, although no signs of that were evident. Mickey, we have done all the 396 Emission Decals for 69 SS Chevelles. I was informed after the fact that the decals were the same for the 69 SS-396 Camaros. I am not in a position to 100% authenticate that. The 69 396 Emission Decals are on my website below if you care to check them out. I do have a separate section for 69 Camaros based on the information noted above. If you, or anybody else, can advise if the decals were or were not the same between Chevelles and Camaros (for the 396 cars) I would be most appreciative.

Here they are side by side Mike (the pic I had and one of the pics you sent). Not a lot to distinguish one from the other. However, I do notice line one (Red) on the first one is just a "smidgen" to the left compared to the second one.

Interesting Mike. Of all the pictures of original 69's sent to me (DZ-L35-L34-L78) none of them have the full "left justified" for that third line. Jerry's book page 48 shows a "diagram" of a CF decal that way, as does page 159 for a "diagram" of the CG decal. Also on page 159 is a pic of an "original" CH that is not left justified for line 3.

Time frame is uncertain Marty as we only fiddle with this stuff in our spare time when we have some. Those 68 jack decals we just finished took 4 or 5 months to get right. However, they are a lot more intricate than an Emission decal. Can you please elaborate on the "69 Black Decals" you are referring to. Do you have a link to that thread?

Here is my original sticker-04A VN car. Notice the 3rd line lines up on the left. I also need the DE air cleaner sticker-no one makes them. They are for 350 4 speed with ZL-2 hood. Hope this helps, seems there are differences.

Don – Here is the thread I was referring to; http://www.camaros.org/forum/index.php?topic=8847.0I had assumed you were in on the conversation. Maybe it was on another thread. It’s a black air breather decal for early model L48’s/LM1’s. You’ll see a couple of examples. The best pic was posted by Kurt. Unfortunately it was a pic from eBay and has since expired. Anyway, have you heard or seen these and if so, do you have any plans to reproduce them? Also, you might want to let us know when you have completed the emission decal so we can place the order. I can’t speak for anyone else, but I tend to forget what happened the day before, or was it the day after? Not getting any younger… IYKWIM?

I wonder if there was more than one source, or a NOR LOS difference. Mike I can't answer that one Mike. I would assume that the answer was no. Many large corporations tend to use one printing source and many of those are a wholly owned company of the parent corporation. When I worked for Ticketron a division of Control Data corp all our printed needs came from our own printing house that was run as a for profit company. Other vendors, competitors and theaters purchased ticket stock, will call envelopes, seating charts etc from them even if they were not on our ticketing system. I Seem to remember a thread someplace about some printing house in the Detroit area that was a GM holding corp and at bankruptcy had been sold off but failed under new ownership and the contents and plates were being auctioned off. And think they also did decal sheets etc for model car kits, and the like. But I have never seen anything about GM having a printer division. Maybe someone from PR would let us know who printed stickers and vehicle documentation in the 60's

Oaklyss - The picture of the decal you posted is not "completely" left justified for line three, but rather it is in between the two other pictures posted during this thread. Also, did you notice yours has that "S" at the end of line one? Marty - I do not recall that thread and I don't believe I ever posted in it. To be honest, we have been approached on occasion to do the odd one of those, but there just isn't the kind of demand necessary to warrant the R & D hours put into some of this stuff. I remember getting a request to do one for some mid 70's Camaro and due to lack of interest I mentioned to him the cost would be between $50 and $100 as we probably wouldn't sell another one. Not surprising he declined. Somewhere along the line we did one of these and the picture of what we did is below. Don't remember what year or model it was for. If I recall the owner was upset as the repros had the three upper insignias centered from left to right and not offset to the right like the original. Just so people will know, we will be replicating the decal shown in my first post on this thread. Really don't see us doing several varieties of it to suit the various "left justified" shown in the various pictures. I will post when it gets completed.

Look closer. Oakley's decal is a later version which is why it's different. The 350/370hp timing spec is different. They redid it and added the S and moved the 3rd line. Hmm, I have two other late LA cars with that version and the 3rd line isn't that far over! The h in With is over the x in mixture.
The comparison pic (post #18) shows that the red printing is slightly offset between the two. Notice the printing in general moves around on the sticker.

Kurt? The 350/370 engine change would have been to accommodate the '70 models? not for '69's... both the Corvette and the Camaro Z28 (with the 350 LT1 engine were introduced after Jan 1 1970, weren't they?

Not sure I'm tracking with which decal is the correct one, is the one that Oaklyss and I show incorrect? Or are they correct for later production which means there are two versions? I would love to buy one but if I buy the one that is shown in the first post then technically do I have an incorrect decal for my car?

Happy to report this project is completed. Below is a picture of our product against the original. In addition to all the usual spacing, alignment and font errors on the available repros, there are a couple of little things to point out here. First, on the sixth line from the top where it has “1/4” take note of the angle of the “/” in the original. Now look at the repros shown in my first post in this thread. Second, take a look at the bottom two Red lines where the “degree” symbol is shown. On the original this symbol is extremely large and not really positioned near the top of that character space as you might think it should. Now look at those repros again. Is this being “really” picky? I guess, but you might as well make it as correct as possible. Information is on my website below for those still interested in this item.

I had a few made up by a guy down here too. All incorrect, but just for fun. Suits my tune up with a Holley HP carb, so all the choke info is deleted.. Tire decal with F60 and L60-15s, and a VIN decal (which my build date would never have had.).. I also had spring decals made with numbers that aren't available from the vendors.
