I have a hole in the center of the front sub frame where the center brace was mounted for a 69 front spoiler. Was this mounting hole in the sub frame specific to spoiler optioned cars only, or included on all the sub frames to allow any car to be ordered with the spoiler option?

All that I can tell you is that my 69 Camaro does not have that hole in the frame.

See you FAIM (D80) for mounting instructions.
Yes, a hole is required in the subframe for the center brace.

That hole means more than you might imagine. It means your car received the D80 (Spoiler) package from the factory. The other clue is one of the two rear spoiler’s torsion rods should be of a larger diameter. If the D80 was installed by the dealer, the center hole and larger torsion rod was not included. Obviously your D80 is much easier to prove than the later.

My car is an 11C build Nov. 1968. If I am reading Jerry's book correctly then my rear spoiler is the smaller version that is not even with the quarters, so the tension rods in the trunk are the same size. However, I do have the hole in the subframe. If I am reading your responses correctly then ONLY D80 had that hole correct? Other cars that did not have the spoiler option at the factory does not have the support rod bolt hole. The other thing I noticed specific to my car is there is no emblem on the trunk lid? Is that correct also?

D80 equipped '69 Camaros built through the first week Jan '69 used the '68 rear spoiler. At that time the wider '69 spoiler beagn to be slowly phased-in meaning either was used. By early March '69 all used the '69 style.

Initially all trunk lids were punched for the emblem. On D80 cars the emblem was supposed to be re-located and new holes drilled; wasn't always done. There were several lids used in production for '69. Service replacement lids did not have any emblem/spoiler mounting holes.

Camaros built in production with D80 used one thicker trunk torsion rod; 68/69 spoiler wasn't a factor. The hole in your frame indicates a prior owner knew how to use a drill.

Wish I had known that ahead of time... Wink

You're implying that; Jerry's books don't mention the rods. Cars built with D80 used one thicker rod.

Bill…I’m not implying anything of the sort. I’m making a point that if Mickey had mentioned his two narrow torsion rods from the beginning I would have known it wasn’t a factory installed D80. You read too much into it…

Can I ask if this was true for '68s, too?  Meaning, all lids had the emblems initially punched regardless of D80 option.  Then, if it was added at the factory or dealer, new holes were drilled.?.?

As noted in the Assembly Manual, that hole was drilled at assembly on units that got D80; the hole wasn't in any subframe as received at the plant.
