T-400 Neutral Safety Switch
« on: April 07, 2012, 08:50:50 PM »
I am in the process of changing out the neutral safety switch on my 67. The old switch has been broken since I purchased it. I went to the local store that sells repo camaro parts and was told that this neutral safety switch came from a Nova, and that the shifter was probably Nova also.  I was kind of taken back as the switch looks just like the picture in the AIM , UPC M-40, sec 11. I am enclosing a picture of the two switches and of my shifter. Any help would be appreciated.   ???

If you're asking if the switch is the same between the 67 Camaro and the 67 Nova, the answer is yes.

Is it possible that the switch you took off the car had been replaced at some time before you got it? It kinda looks like it's been modified with the ends of the tabs cut/split like they are.

That might be a possibility. Seems like the mounting tabs were cut in order to slide it over the mounting bolts.  I have not been able to find a switch like the one that came out of the car on any website.  They all call for the one on the right. That  switch will not match up in any way to work.  I guess what I'm wondering is, is the switch that came out of the car a 3909591, if so where might one be found?  Thanks again.

I wonder if you can just bend up the tabs to swap in the "guts"?  That is if you can't find one that is like the old one...

LVN 67,
Shifter and sw. look like my original 67.
Could not find P/N on sw.
I would try switching the replacement sw. withe your old mounting bracket as flyingskibiker suggested.. Let us know what you do.

Thanks for the input. I tried switching out the guts, but the mounting slot on the upper right wont line up.  There will be several swap meets in the KC area comming up soon.  The search continues.

Going to be a hard sw. to find, only in production for 7 or 8 months in 67 and used in the floor-shift only auto in 68 ( RPO M11 ).
You may have to buy a complete shifter to get the sw.
Need a back up plan.
Do the other 3 slots line up? If they do, how about making the slot with J-B weild and Dremel Tool ? Not original, but will keep you going until you find a sw. ;D

Found a neutral safety switch at The Shiftworks in Rochester, NY. Hope to have this all buttoned up pretty soon. Thanks everyone for the input.  :)

Just received the NSS from Shiftworks.  It bolted up just like the other.  Had to wire in the factory connector, and one small tweek; and I'm now back on the road.  They sell a nice product.   :D   :D

Just wondering if the plastic body of the NSS you received from Shiftworks was black like the original or white like Rick's SW-39 replacement?

Had to dig out my Ricks catalog. Looks just like it (white body).  Wonder if Shiftworks are their supplier?

Could be, but it is good to know that there is a sw. available.
What was the small tweak you had to do on the sw?

Not really a tweek, just had to roll the switch a bit to get the back up lights to come on. No problems.   :)
