My Red 67 finally in paint
« on: April 04, 2012, 12:09:01 AM »
My Red 67 is finally in paint.  Was scheduled for paint 3 weeks ago, then that shop got busy with accident repairs, so had to find another.   I have this week off, "gnawing at the bit" to start getting it back together.  Supposed to be done tomorrow.  The suspense has been killing me!

This part of the rebuild is in my opinion, the most exciting.  After all the hard work and to finally see color sprayed on.  The worst part is your first chip.  Hopefully it's while driving as opposed to mine, that always seem to occur during the re-assembly process.  For the life of me I have absolutely no idea how the factory builds a car after it's been painted without chipping and scratching the heck out of it.

Great looking car.  I'm sure you'll have a blast with it.

Also I might add very slow. It took us a month just to put my interior in. Of course that is dealing with aftermarket parts that don't fit so you put it on, take it off, work on it, put it back on etc, etc. etc.... then when you can't get it to fit you hunt for original used parts

This is my favorite so far, note the Weckerly's D-X sign in the background.  That is from my Grandfathers service station where my brothers and I each took turns working when we were in High School.

Care and patience. You can R&R a nose without damage if you're careful; some people aren't. Those who paint a car in pieces as opposed to assembled know all about it. Make sure you get all the buffing crud off before too long. Although the waterbased polishes are not as bad as the solvent based.

I'm at my brothers reassembling the car this weekend.  Got my engine back today(original to the car), and cleaned up and painted.  I posted a pic. on facebook if interested.  But I haven't figured out how to downsize pictures on this computer.  Making a lot of progress.
