I have been going through parts that came with my 01B 1969 Z and one of the parts is the radiator cap.  Is this an original cap?  The rivet on top looks odd and why is there a hole in one of the ears?

Yes - That is an original cap. The rivet is perfectly correct for that month.
The hole was probably drilled by someone who attached a safety cord?

Nice cap - -should clean up very easily....

Agree with Jeff that it should clean up nicely. Get yourself some evaporust or one of the other similar rust remover solutions and let it soak for a day. Those in nice condititon bring good money. A NOS one just brought $609 recently........

Jeff,
Is that cap also correct for a 67 05E build or was the rivet different?

No - the earlier cap had a hollow rivet - there may have been some overlap in 68 but typically the flat rivet is 69 and later.
see 67 cap below...

Jeff,
The cap I have for my 67 looks like your 2nd picture. The Ac and 15# are reversed in the two pictures any reason for this?

No reason at all.  Lots of versions of those Rad caps.
AC on one side - AC on the other side - Sometimes they even forgot a circle or two.
Sometimes the logos are upside down or angled - Really it was just a mass produced item with a lot of different variations.

Nice cap John - -I love the deep stampings on a gently used original...

Joe Perri did an awesome job restoring the original cap.  He even fixed the hole in the ear.

As long as it's not against CRG policy.  If it is, I can delete the info ASAP.

Disclaimer: I have no affiliation with Mr. Perri, but he did an awesome job on my cap and his prices are very reasonable.

I bought both products on Amazon.com cheaper than any store had it.

Daniel is correct! I purchase ours at our local harbor freight and use a 20% coupon. PepBoys used to sell it as well but not sure if they still do.
