1969 Hounds tooth interiors
« on: February 21, 2012, 06:31:51 PM »
Hello to all Fellow Camaro Owners,

I own a Jerry McNeish verified 1969 X33 RS Z28, 50/50 with 729 interior.

I am trying to find out just how many of the X33's and X77's were "born with" a houndstooth interior. US and Canada

How many of each different houndstooth interior code number, were actually used in X33 and X77 for 1969.

How many of those X33 RS cars in i1969 were fitted with the 729 interiors (white)?

I am greatful for any and all help that can be provided with this matter,

Thank you!

That information could only come from a database of 1969 Camaro production records. No production records exist.

39,875 '69s were built with the Z87 Custom Interior. That's as good as it gets.

I do believe that Canada, did not distroy their records. Maybe operational Camaro clubs have an idea of on the numbers based on their members?

The problem with records as they may exist is they are hard copy. Assuming you could get all of the Canadian shipping docs someone would have to manually review and keypunch the data. All you would get out of that is a statistical interpolation which is not factual. For that to be valid you need at least 5% of the total or just over 12,000 records. If you averaged 3 minutes each it would take 600 hours to key them.

Sound like fun?

Thank you, for the frank reply and expressed knowledge. Even with Canada factory records, the US records are no longer available. Seems moot at this point. However it would have been nice to know the actual number born with 729 interiors. I know any color houndstooth is very rare to find in a X33 or X77, but just how rare, unknown.

Since estimated color % can be found here I blew through known Z/28s and came up with the following:

713 Black HT           4.8%
714 Yellow HT         1.3%
720 Orange HT        1.3%
729 Ivory HT           3.0%

This is based on less than 5% of Z/28 production. All it is is a rough estimate. For example in my day I've encountered several 714/720 Z/28s. But I can only recall 2 729s.

BTW there were 3 lower than 714/720: 716 [blue custom] 722 [medium green custom] and 719 [red custom].
