69 Z28 valve cover hardware
« on: January 29, 2012, 03:52:16 AM »
For a 69 Z/28 built the 2nd week of January (don't know if that matters) what is the correct valve cover hardware?

I have done a lot of searches, but I am not sure if it is supposed to have retainers.

On the HBC website, they list a package for 69's with a 302 except aluminum covers: http://www.heartbeatcitycamaro.com/store/product/13856/Camaro-Valve-cover-retainers-%26-bolts-67-68-69/ and these have retainers.  All Z/28's have a 302 with aluminum covers so I am not sure what is correct.

If you look closely at the top of that listing it says 67 68 69.  And in description I believe it says 307 327 350.  69 Z/28 302 was the only smallblock in those 3 yrs. that had the Aluminum valve covers, all others had steel and would use this kit.

Except that the 350 hp, 350 ci in Corvettes also had the same valve covers as the '69 302 ci in the Z28..

That is a typo. The kit is only for steel stamped valve covers.

The repro hardware specificaly for the aluminum covers is what you need. There are some small wire/hose holders you could get as well. You can get as detailed as you want but the bolts reallly need to be right. If you go generic on the bolts they seem to be either too long or too short in my experience.

NPD has decent  fastners for the valve covers and the wire looms.
