1967 RS/SS Restoration

Hello all,

I'm a new member in process or restoring a 1967 RS/SS (396) Camaro that I have owned since 1976. I've known the car since new and it currently has 2856 miles on it (Yes 2856 miles). It was a drag car since new, never cut, and was always stored inside. I completely disassembled it and is currently being media blasted and prepped for paint. The more I investigate details, the more difficult it is beginning to seem as I want to do it "right" although I starting to question what that is..

All thoughts, input, or guidence is welcome.....     The car also has the cowl induction hole in the firewall and I can't verify that was ever done, although it is factory.

Are you comfortable posting pics? If you're answer is yes, post pics of the following; Cowl Tag, Engine Pad/Stamp, Transmission Stamp, Rear Axle Stamp and a POP if you have one. And, a good shot of the firewall/CIH hole in the fire-wall.

If you are not comfortable with pic posting, PM me and we'll figure something else out.

The cowl plenum air cleaner, duct, and adapter was available as an over-the-counter Service part, with a template and instructions for cutting the hole; none were ever factory-installed, although the kit could be ordered with a Z/28 and the kit came in the trunk.

Looks as if the plenum was there at some point, there are screws and pieces left.  Do you have any of the parts for the Plenum Air Cleaner?  It would be a nice option.

That doesn't look like mine. I talked to a friend that remembers it on the car. I don't have the original motor or trans as they were trashed in early 68 when it became a drag car. I couldn't get photos to copy - any advise is welcome and thenyou can see.   Thanks

At the bottom left hand corner of the cowl tag does it have a 4K ?

I'll take a photo of the data tag when I see the painter this week. What does "4K" stand for?   What are thoughts on wiring?   I've done some shopping and I'm afraid I'll learn something the hard way, so any input is appreciated. I would like to post a couple of photos but have had no luck...Please advise... Thanks.... I did talk to the second owner and he verified it was a SS/RS 396. Hope to hear from the original owner this week....

Factory Fit wiring in my opinion is best on the market. Made by American Auto Wire.

I've never used any classic industries wiring.  Factory fit is built to OEM specs. They are spot on for replacement if you want to keep it like factory.

4K means it is a 396ci 375hp car. If you see it you have a rare car because only 1138 were made in 1967. Is it a Norwood built car or a LA car? If it is a 4k car please PM me. There is a group of 4K guys around that like to keep up with these cars.
